How We Teach Surfing at Ama Surf Camp
Learning to surf isn’t about standing up once and hoping for the best. At Ama Surf Camp, it’s about building real skills, session after session, with coaches who actually know your name — coaches who’ve been doing this since 2015, with over a decade of experience getting surfers of every level onto their feet and beyond.
Small Groups, Not Crowds
We cap every group so each surfer gets genuine attention. No lineup of ten students waiting their turn while one coach shouts instructions from the beach. Whether you’re catching your first whitewash wave or working on cutbacks, you’re getting eyes on your technique every single time you paddle out.
Coaching That Meets You Where You Are
We keep beginners and intermediate surfers in separate groups, so no one’s holding anyone back. Before you even touch a board, we talk through your experience, your goals, and what’s been tripping you up. From there, it’s personalized pop-up mechanics and wave-catching basics for beginners, positioning and wave selection for surfers ready to link turns.
On the Water, Then Off It
Every session ends with a debrief. We walk through what worked, what to adjust, and what to focus on next time — sometimes with photos or video from the session itself, so you can actually see the difference between how a wave felt and how it looked.
Progress You Can Feel
Surfing rewards repetition with the right corrections, not just repetition. That’s the whole philosophy behind how we teach: fewer people per coach, more specific feedback, and a plan that evolves with you across the week.
