Since 2015,
AMA Surf Camp was built on years of surfing experience and a passion for sharing the ocean with travelers from around the world. Our journey began with our successful surf school in Weligama, and today we continue to help surfers of all levels build confidence, improve their skills, and enjoy the beauty of Sri Lanka’s south coast.
How We Teach Surfing at Ama Surf Camp
Learning to surf isn’t about standing up once and hoping for the best. At Ama Surf Camp, it’s about building real skills, session after session, with coaches who actually know your name—coaches who’ve been doing this since 2015, with over a decade of experience getting surfers of every level onto their feet and beyond.
Where You’ll Sleep at Ama Surf Camp
Surfing all day takes it out of you. That’s why we put as much thought into your room as we do into your coaching.
Private, Shared, or Dorm — Your Call
Want your own space to crash after a long session? Our private rooms come with real beds, ensuite bathrooms, and enough quiet to actually recover. Traveling solo, on a budget, or love the group energy? Our shared and dorm rooms put you right in the middle of the camp’s social buzz — new friends, shared stories, same great comfort.
Yoga at Ama Surf Camp
Surfing asks a lot of your body. Yoga is how we help it keep up.
Morning and Evening, Built Around Your Sessions
We run yoga twice a day — morning sessions to open up your hips, shoulders, and spine before you paddle out, and evening sessions to unwind and recover once the sun’s going down. Both are optional, both are worth showing up for.
Explore Beyond the Break at Ama Surf Camp
Surfing fills your mornings. What you do with the rest of the day, here in Mirissa, Sri Lanka, is up to you.
Guided, If You Want It
Our team runs regular trips to nearby waterfalls, local villages, and hidden viewpoints most visitors never find on their own. Someone who actually knows the area leads the way, so you’re not guessing which trail’s worth it or which warung has the best food.
Why Stay in Mirissa Instead of Weligama
Weligama and Mirissa sit just fifteen minutes apart on Sri Lanka’s south coast, and both show up on every surf trip shortlist. So why base yourself with us in Mirissa? Here’s the honest case.
Waves That Grow With You
Weligama’s fame is built on one thing: mellow, forgiving whitewash that’s perfect for a first-ever lesson. Great for day one, less exciting by day five. Mirissa’s bay holds a wider mix of breaks — enough to start soft and still find something with real shape once you’re ready to push past the basics, without changing towns to do it.

My instructor, Achi, was fantastic and helped me catch waves right away. I had so much fun and did way better than I expected. I would definitely come back and repeat! Highly recommended if you are in Weligama. 🏄♂️🌊🤙🏻Posted on Google Rashid SulemanaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had my very first surfing lesson here, and it was an amazing experience! A huge thank you to Vidu for being such an awesome instructor. He was patient, friendly, and made everything easy to understand, even for a complete beginner. I felt safe the whole time, and thanks to his guidance, I was able to stand up on the board much sooner than I expected. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun, and everyone was super welcoming. If you’re thinking about trying surfing for the first time, I highly recommend this place. I’ll definitely be back!Posted on Google Röschu 030Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. had my first surfing experience at ama surfing school with vidhu and the 19 year old boy whos name i forgot, they were the best, will definetely come again 🤩Posted on Google AaswandiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
